FAQs

Why is Mental Health important?

Mental health impacts every area of our life. Maintaining a positive mental health brings about stability in our thoughts, emotions and behavioural patterns. Focusing on mental health has a positive impact on our relationships, self-image and much more.

How do I know I’m mentally unwell?

There are many signs that point towards deterioration in our mental health. If any event/situation has negatively impacted us, it starts showing up in our routine functioning. Our appetite and sleep gets affected. Our emotions go haywire and there is a diminished sense of clarity, thought-wise. When there is a significant shift from our normal functioning, it's a sign to take a deeper look at our mental health.

What role does therapy play in improving Mental Health?

Therapy helps us build coping skills to deal with the issues at hand. It equips us with the tools we need in order for us to navigate through the challenges we face. We learn how to keep our emotions and thoughts in order, and practice mindfulness in our daily lives.

Can therapy work as a substitute for medication?

No. Therapy best works in tandem with medications, in case of severe mental illnesses. It can never be a substitute for medication.

Can mental illness be prevented?

There is no proven ways to prevent mental illness, but there are a number of steps you can take to keep it in control. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, while you have a good support system in place helps go a long way. Working on your self-esteem and building a good relationship with yourself is also an essential way of preventing mental illness.

My therapist at OutAloud was not just a therapist, but someone who is a throrough professional. She understood so much more about me than I even know. She has been kind, caring, and mature too. She makes sure I don’t get myself stuck to feel depressed, but helps me cope with it and develop new skills that are now taking me forward too. My work performance has improved alot over the last 2 months. Thanks to her guidance and interactions.
